Sacramento History Museum
We are always looking for an extra pair of hands! If you like to do office work, answer the phone, file, organize,
or do data entry then we are looking for you! The Historic Old Sacramento Foundation business office is in the Sacramento
History Museum and operates Monday through Friday 10:00AM to 5:00PM. Volunteers can volunteer on a weekly basis, but we
would prefer volunteers to commit to a minimum of one day a week for four hours at a time.

Docent Program
Docents are the life-force of any museum. Docents at the Sacramento History Museum are no exception. Prior to becoming a docent, perspective docents are required to do docent training and to be fingerprinted with the Department of Parks and Recreation. Docents lead school and adult groups year-round. As a museum Docent you can choose which themed programs, tours, or galleries interest you the most and lead only those that interest you. Docents volunteer anywhere from two to twenty hours a week depending on your availability. Monthly Docent meetings are held to keep everyone on track and aware of the museum's Public Program Schedule.
Events
Get involved and volunteer at our special events. Events range from gallery openings, mixers, museum rentals, and fund-raisers. Events typically take place in the evenings and on weekends and are four to five hours in length. Prior to the event we need volunteers to help set-up and arrange tables and chairs. During the event, volunteers help check people in, welcome guests, guide people from gallery to gallery, enforce museum rules such as no food and drink in the upstairs gallery, and assist patrons on the escalator and to the elevator.
Students
Do you need service hours to fulfill your graduation requirement? We are the place for students to fulfill their service hours. Students learn how to gold pan, how to teach others how to gold pan, assist on the weekends with arts and crafts, and can train to become student docents. Student docents are required to attend student docent training to learn about the museum and our beautiful artifacts. After completing the training, student docents can be gallery guides and lead museum patrons around the museum and answer questions they may have about the museums collections. Short-time volunteers can volunteer for as little as one weekend day. Long-time volunteers or student docents must commit to a minimum of 30 hours per year.
