About the Tours

Hidden beneath the city for nearly 150 years, Old Sacramento’s underground has long been the capital’s best-kept secret. Today, you can join thousands of residents and visitors in uncovering the facts behind the legends that lie below our buildings and sidewalks. Explore excavated foundations and enclosed pathways while your tour guide recounts the tales of devastation, perseverance, and determination that led to California’s only successful street-raising project.

These hour-long guided walking tours check in at the Sacramento History Museum before descending below several historic Old Sacramento buildings. Be prepared to walk in areas with uneven surfaces and low ceilings and get ready to learn and have fun all along the way!

Availability/Schedule

The 2012 season will begin on March31 and will run through November. Please check the table below for specific days and times. Private tours are available off-season for groups of 20 or more. Call 916-808-7973 for more information.

Tickets

Tickets for the 2012 Underground Tour season may be purchased online, in person at the Sacramento History Museum, or over the phone by calling (916) 808-7059. These tours are often filled to capacity, so be sure to purchase tickets in advance to guarantee your spot. Ticket prices for Old Sacramento Underground Tours are as follows:

Adults: $15
Youth (6-17): $10
Children (5 & Under): Free
Adult Members: $12

HOSF members can purchase up to five adult tickets at the discounted rate. Children 5 and under will not receive audio headsets or receivers unless a youth ticket is purchased for them. Please note that all ticket sales are final and that neither refunds nor exchanges are available. Tours will run rain or shine.

Checking In

All tours check in at the Sacramento History Museum, located at 101 I Street in Old Sacramento. Please plan on arriving at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled tour, as tours depart the museum precisely on time.
