About the Foundation

HOSF Primary Goal

The educational and interpretive programs of the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation (HOSF) enable us to use Old Sacramento to reflect a living, self-sustaining community with the atmosphere, character, architecture, enterprise and color of the early gold mining period. The goal of these programs is to inspire people and to stimulate their appreciation of history and our national heritage.

HOSF Secondary Goals

  • Create a successful tour program that will draw locals and tourists to the district for a new experience in Old Sacramento, and have them walk away with a new image and understanding of the area
  • Create a vibrant and active summer Street Theatre program in Old Sacramento that will bring history alive
  • Update the current Sacramento History Museum with new interpretive exhibitions that enhance the visitor experience
  • Focus attention on Sacramento as a visitor destination and center for heritage tourism
  • Expand the general public’s knowledge of their local history
  • Increase and repeat visits by both tourist and locals to Old Sacramento
  • Provide a new activity that is close by and can be shared as a family experience for locals and tourists
  • Give Sacramento a unique identity as the only city in California to raise its streets
  • Provide quality offerings for visitors to Old Sacramento
  • Create packaging opportunities with local businesses, hotels, tour operators and the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau
